Don't flush drugs: Take them back!

It's time to clean out your medicine cabinet. But, you might be wondering, what is the best way to dispose of these chemicals? Do not flush them down the toilet: They'll end up polluting local waterways.

In Snohomish County, residents are not allowed to put their leftover medicines in the garbage, and flushing medicines down the toilet or the drain can pollute local waterways. The safest way to dispose of medicines is to take them to a medicine take-back program.  28 local law enforcement offices in Snohomish County now provide take-back programs for medicines, including controlled substances (narcotics).  All medicines that are not controlled substances can also be returned to take-back programs at five participating Bartell Drugs and Group Health Cooperative pharmacies in the county.
